Meet the Team: Scott Couey

Year started: 2012
Department: e-Media
Position: e-Media Coordinator

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Introvert, creative, and loyal

Name 5 of your favorite things

  • I love to read (favorite authors include: C.S. Lewis, Ted Dekker, and Donald Miller)
  • I have a huge Blu-ray collection (favorite actor: Chris Evans/favorite actress: Anna Kendrick)
  • Favorite color is cobalt blue
  • Favorite tv show: Smallville
  • Favorite holiday: Christmas (even though I missed being born on Valentine’s Day by about 6 hours too early)

Tell us about your typical day at Messe Frankfurt?
As e-Media Coordinator, I rarely have a “typical” day. One day I may be working on websites for an upcoming show, another day I may be working on mobile apps, another day I am working on e-cards/e-newsletters, I may also be working on social media, or it could be any combination of these things. I also assist our e-Media Manager in any way that is needed.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
I like being able to see the results of what I have done and how it impacts show attendees and exhibitors. I’m able to see how many people opened or clicked on a link in an e-card/e-newsletter. I can see follows and retweets/reposts on social media. I’m able to pull data on how our websites are performing. I also love being challenged by my boss to think outside of the box and either use my existing skills or learn new skills to find ways that we can implement new technologies in our department, for our shows, or for the company as a whole.

What is one interesting fact that people might not know about you?
I have a very distant cousin who ran for President against Herbert Hoover.

Where can we usually spot you outside of Messe Frankfurt?
I just bought a condo in May, so if I’m not working on my condo I am out spending time with friends and family. I have three nieces and two nephews and love spending time with them – going to the movies, eating dinner with my entire family (I am the oldest of three boys)…there is always something going on.

One interesting non-work related item we can find in your office/cubicle is:
I am a huge Captain America fan and have several Captain America bobble heads and paraphernalia in my cube.

Tell us about your most memorable trade show experience.
The first show that I attended for work was in New York. On our flight back to Atlanta, we found out that Jake Gyllenhaal was on our flight. I actually saw him in the airport after we got off the plane, but he was in a hurry so I didn’t get to meet him.

If you could give advice to anyone who’s interested in the trade show industry what would it be?
Read as much as you can about the industry. Follow trade shows and trade show companies on social media. Take every opportunity you can to attend shows and just take things in – I have learned so much about the industry by just “experiencing” things first hand.
